The UK Municipal Chapter (head: Shin Woo seung) held an event wishing for national unification to commemorate the 70th anniversary of independence on Feb. 14 at Christ Church in London, where 180 people attended including the British Korean Veterans Association, leaders of local UK societies, and Korean community leaders in the UK.
Alan Guy, a member of the British Korean Veterans Association, gave a special lecture titled “Obligation of One UK Soldier.” He talked about the Korean War for which he enlisted in 1950 when he was 19 years old. “Unfortunately, the Korean peninsula still remains divided into two. I wish the UK veterans of Korean War will see it unified during their lifetime,” said the old soldier.
Other lectures were given by Kim Ju-il, Secretary General of the Koreans Federation, and Choi Seung-chul, President of Korean Nationality Residents Association. Michael Eric Marshall, Bishop of the London Parish of the Episcopal Church, gave a sermon and a piano recital.
