From Halla to Baekdu! Joint Ritual for Peaceful Unification
“From Halla to Baekdu! Joint Ritual for Peaceful Unification” was held by the Jeju Municipal Chapter at the Imjingak Pyeonghwa Nuri Park at 3pm on June 10 with 1,000 participants including council members and general citizens attending.
This ritual started from the Jeju Hallasan Ritual on May 22; it was held to spread the resolution of NUAC to overcome the North Korean nuclear threat by the united will of the people for unification.
The event was participated in by Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol, Vice-chairpersons of 12 municipal/provincial chapters, female Vice-chairperson Kim Tae-hyun, and Secretary General Bae Jung-ho.

Opening Speech by Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol
“Although the South‒North relations are fraught with difficulties, our desire for unification has never been more fervent or earnest,” Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol said during his opening speech.
According to Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo, today’s event was prepared with the devotion of the vice-chairpersons of municipal/provincial chapters across the nation including Jeju. “It will be remembered as a day of showing our will to accomplish the hard task of unification with our strong desire,” he added.

Introductory speech by Secretary General Bae Jung-ho
“The flame of unification that started in Halla has carried over to Imjingak today,” said Secretary General Bae Jung-ho in his introductory speech.
He expressed hope that our passion for peaceful unification and nation with advancement and power spreads to North Korea. Crisis will turn into opportunity with the concentration of all our efforts, he stressed.

After the opening ceremony, the ritual began in earnest.
Other events included ≪Ceremony of gathering waters with desire for peaceful unification≫ to gather the river water across the nation as brought by the vice-chairpersons of municipal/provincial chapters,≪Recitation of written prayer≫ by the Jeju Municipal Chapter, and≪Calligraphy performance hoping for unification≫ by Professor Jang Sang-du.

In the following session, Kim Duk-soo Samulnori Band, Baritone Park Jung-min, Vocal ensemble WeltrauM, and North Korean defector and singer Kim Jeong-won performed our traditional tunes with excitement and powerful songs, delivering our desire for unification.
Despite the hot weather, 1,000 participants stayed in their seats out of their desire for peaceful unification. Especially, council members from Seoul and Gyeonggi-do attracted attention by putting the slogan “United will for unification, great nation with advancement & power” on their bus and moving around Yeouido and Gwanghwamun area to promote citizens’ will for unification.
Starting with this “From Halla to Baekdu! Joint Ritual for Peaceful Unification” event, NUAC will engage in more vigorous activities of spreading sympathy for unification to promote sympathy, companionship, and concentration of the people.
