Letter of Designation Presented to the 16th Central Committee Members, Workshop Held
Activities of the 16th Council expected to be successful with positive participation
The ceremony for the presentation of letters of designation to the 16th Central Committee Members of the Council and a workshop were held on July 4, 2013 at Seoul Grand Hilton Hotel.
"Trust between South and North is necessary to establish relations wherein common sense can work," said Hyun Kyung-dae, Executive Vice-chairperson of the Council, in his opening address. He emphasized the significance of the Korean Peninsula Trust-Building Process and importance of the role of the 16th National Unification Advisory Council in building the foundation of peaceful unification, one of the four keynotes of government administration.
"National consensus is required for the government to promote the policy with firm belief and consistency. In this regard, the 16th National Unification Advisory Council should lead the unification movement for the new era of the Korean Peninsula to come," he added.
- According to Park Chan-bong, Secretary General, the aims of organizing the 16th National Unification Advisory Council are to reinforce professionalism and vocational representativeness, increase the participation ratio of women and members who are in 40s in the executive groups, and enhance international capability. He reminded the participants that professionalism and representativeness are particularly required by executive and Central Committees, asking for positive participation in the activities of the council.
- "Relations between South and North can be developed only when trust is built among them even though it is small and little. The Korean Peninsula Trust-Building Process involves establishing sustainable and forward-moving relationship, not going backward," said Unification Minister Ryu Gil-jae in his special lecture.
Minister Ryu added that the existing points of view on national unification are insufficient to build the foundation of peaceful unification. The consciousness and culture of our society in relation to national unification should change, he says.
All the standing executives attended the workshop. After the workshop, meetings of the 10 standing committees were organized to discuss the operation of each standing committee.
Meanwhile, the Executive Committee (Chief: Hyun Kyung-dae) deliberated and decided on the action plans of the 16th National Unification Advisory Council and amendment of operating rules of the Council.
