President Park Geun-hye stated, "The overseas council members of the NUAC should carry the sense of duty that they are the unification diplomats leading the future of Korea, and I hope that you will exert your best efforts to lead the national unification movement.”
President Park and the Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council (NUAC) attended the "Dialogue for Unification" at the Blue House on June 11 and emphasized the importance of the overseas council members of the NUAC, describing them as the unification diplomats. She added, "Another role of the council members is to unite overseas Koreans to strengthen the progress to unification. Overseas council members are the foundation of the grassroots unification movement and your devotion and passion will be of great influence in unifying the Korean peninsula."
She also encouraged the One-to-Five Movement, which is the NUAC’s support program and mentoring project for helping North Korean refugees.
President Park continued, "I know that overseas council members have been achieving good performances in educating the second and third generation of Korean immigrants in terms of helping them learn the Korean language and understanding the need for national unification. Furthermore, you have been providing the North Korean refugee students with education overseas. I appreciate your efforts to lead the future generations of Korea so that they have sense of identity in search of peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula".

President Park welcomed 500 overseas council members from North and South America, Southeast Asia, Russia, and other regions of the world at the Blue House, where she listened to their advice and recommendations.
She said, "We will not give up. Instead, we will do our best to draw North Korea into dialogues and to encourage them to cooperate with us. The three goals of the Dresden Declaration will create a valuable foundation to build mutual trust between Seoul and Pyeongyang for the two Koreas to become one.”
She continued, "North Korea does not abandon their nuclear facilities, and have yet to accept our cooperation. Nonetheless, we will continue to promote the plan for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula. The core of the Dresden Declaration is to solve the humanitarian issues of North Koreans first and to establish infrastructures for their livelihoods for the joint prosperity of the South and North. It also seeks to expand socio-cultural exchanges in order to recover the homogeneity of the people. Building mutual trust step by step and practicing the goals will be the valuable groundwork for bringing the two Koreas together as one again.”
President Park added, "During my visit to the former East Germany, which has developed remarkably, I was able to confirm that a unified Korean Peninsula will bring about a great opportunity of prosperity and peace to the entire world. Threats and provocations by North Korea and its development of nuclear weapons are increasing, while the situation in and around South Korea is worsening. But such crises can be an opportunity for re-birth and can boost the Republic of Korea, if we try our best. This shall happen. We should promote the constant re-construction of our country, correct abnormal matters and the harmful effects in our society by unifying the people's capability. Furthermore, the Korean Peninsula should be made free by letting North Korea change, based on strong national security.”

She also said that as she had observed in the case of Germany, the unification of the Korean Peninsula cannot be achieved only by the efforts of our government and people. Looking after the North Korean people and building infrastructure for stability of the people’s lives in North Korea cannot be possible without the cooperation of the neighboring countries, international organizations, and internal NGOs.
Hyun Kyung-dae, the Executive Vice-chairperson of the NUAC, expressed his appreciation to President Park for inviting the 500 overseas council members from 53 countries to the Blue House.

Hyun stated, "National unification is a bonanza of being a center of global economy in which the Northern and Southern economy exchanges, cultural exchange between the continent and the oceanare blended together to create a new wave of culture. The dream of national unification can be achieved with the passion and commitment of the overseas council members"
He added, "The NUAC decided to cooperate in making a ‘Safe Korea,’ which was also promised by President Park and the Chairperson of NUAC, in order to rectify a ‘Safe Society.’ The 20,000 NUAC council members believe that a safe country guarantees strong national security and that this creates a strong foundation for national unification.“
Hyun continued, "President Park's visit to three Central Asian countries is the first step to realizing the ambitious plan of making Eurasia a ‘Continent of Creation and Peace’ and a ‘Blueprint for National Unification.’ President Park's Eurasia Initiative embraces the Northern and Southern economies and makes a unified Korea a pivotal point in world peace and prosperity. It will eventually complete the proposed ‘Silk Road Express.’”
Kim Ki-chol, the Vice-chairperson of the Americas Assembly said, "President Park's Unification Bonanza attracted great interest and responses from overseas Koreans. The 3,000 overseas council members of the NUAC will not be sparing in our efforts to achieve unification. We will do so with a strong sense responsibility and duty. The Republic of Korea is strong in the face of crisis; Korea will soon overcome the ordeal of the ferry disaster and will eventually become a safe country.”
Three Municipal Chapters Recommended a Unification Policy to the President on Behalf of 14 Overseas Municipal Chapters.
The Australian Chapter introduced its public diplomacy as one of its major activities during the 16th NUAC. It had a lecture about the human rights of North Korea, inviting Michael Kirby, chairman of the UN Committee of Investigating Human Rights in North Korea, and Michael Danby, federal congressman of Australia, where such lectures efficiently informed the Australian society of the real human rights situation in North Korea.
The Vancouver Municipal Chapter introduced its activities to foster the future generation of unification and the 1.5 immigration generation living in Canada. The Chapter successfully held the Festival of Unification of Korean Peninsula where not only the Korean students but also the local Canadians participated. The Chapter also plans to organize the Smart Phone Video Contest Wishing for Unification. Over 100 young students living in North America will be invited to attend the Next Generation Conference this coming November to discuss the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.
While a low-key dialogue with the President lasted for one hour in the midst of condolences of the Sewol ferry disaster, passion towards national unification was more heated than ever. The dialogue was finalized with touring the precincts of the Blue House.
