Hyun Kyung-dae was inaugurated as Executive Vice-chairperson of the Council during the inauguration ceremony held on May 3.
"I will make my best efforts so that the National Unification Advisory Council is able to perform its roles as set forth in the Constitution and applicable laws. It is important for the Council to be one that is respected and supported by the people," the new Executive Vice-chairperson said in his inauguration address.

He went on to add that national unification based on freedom and democracy is the constitutional value of unification being pursued by the Constitution, and that there should be no South-South conflict due to such constitutional value.
He also stressed that the unification of Korean Peninsula should be achieved to prevent fratricidal war as before and let the North Korean people enjoy freedom and democracy. Hyun served the National Unification Advisory Council as Secretary General from March 1990 to January 1992.
