Defecting North Korean students urged to become the future of South Korea
NK Refugee Affairs & Welfare Standing Committee of Seoul Provincial Assembly · Medical Corps present scholarships to outstanding defecting North Korean students
The NUAC NK Refugee Affairs & Welfare Standing Committee of the Seoul Provincial Assembly (chief: Han Gwang-suk, president of Seoul Cosmetics), along with the Medical Corps (head: Kim Cheol-su, H Plum Yangji Hospital Chief Director), held the “scholarship presentation ceremony for outstanding defecting North Korean students” at the NUAC secretariat assembly hall on September 3.
In this ceremony of scholarship presentation, scholarships were given to a total of 15 defecting North Korean students in middle and high school and college who have been in contact with NUAC and who have been diligently performing in school. Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol, Secretary General Kwon Tae-oh, heads of chapters of the Seoul Assembly, and council members concerned attended to encourage the awardees.
Chief Han Gwang-suk and Head Kim Cheol-su promoted this event, agreeing on the need to “pave the way for defecting North Korean students to study hard to become the future of South Korea and play a leading role in various sectors of society after the unification.”

  • Words of Encouragement: Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeolExecutive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol, who attended to encourage the students, asked students to study hard. “Whenever I see defecting North Korean students overcoming hardships with their iron will and showing outstanding grades and school performance, it feels like the hope of unification is blossoming,” he said.

The scholarship presentation ceremony on this day ended with a commemorative photograph of awardees and guests.
