The inaugural session of the 17th term of NUAC in Japan was held to share the goal and vision of NUAC on the occasion of the launching of the 17th term of the organization.
The ceremony was held in two parts. The first one proceeded with the presentation of the letter of appointment, NUAC member oath, screening of video message of the President, and reports on the action plan of the 17th-term NUAC and business plan of the municipal chapters in Japan. A lecture on national unification was given during the second part of the ceremony, followed by the singing of the Unification Song.
◎ Eastern Municipal Chapter of Japan inaugurated (Jul. 14)
A total of 180 people including Oh Gong-tae, Vice-chairperson, NUAC members in Japan, and Koreans living in the country attended the ceremony held at the Korea Central Hall on Jul. 14 (Tue.)

- “We celebrate the 70th anniversary of Korea’s independence this year; 70 years have also passed since the Korean Peninsula was divided into two. Overseas Koreans and NUAC members living in Japan are required to perform their activities more actively to form an environment for peaceful unification with one mind,” said Nam Jo-nam, chief of the Eastern Municipal Chapter of Japan, in his opening speech.
- Oh Gong-tae, Vice-chairperson of the Japan Assembly, presented the letter of appointment to the members of the 17th-term NUAC and asked them to do their best efforts to perform their roles in establishing a foundation for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.
Korean Consul General Kim Young-gil attended the ceremony to offer his congratulations on the inauguration session. “The roles and responsibilities of overseas Koreans are very important in spreading the sympathy of national unification among the people. NUAC members are the leaders of Korean communities overseas, and I wish you contribute to establishing a global Korean network with pride and sense of responsibility,” he said.
◎ Inaugural Session of the Ginki Municipal Chapter of Japan (Jul. 15)
The inaugural session was held on Jul. 15 at the Osaka Office of the Federation of Korean Residents in Japan and attended by 150 Koreans in the area including Kwon Oh-il, chief of the municipal chapter, NUAC members in Japan, and Korean residents in the city.

“We will endeavor to spread the sympathy of peaceful unification of Korea among the people in Japan,” Kwon said in his opening speech. Meanwhile, in his congratulatory speech, Ha Tae-yun, Korean Consul General to Osaka, stressed that the unification of the two Koreas can be achieved not only with the efforts of South and North Korea but also with the cooperation and support of surrounding countries and expressed hope that NUAC members in this region will exert their positive efforts for it.

◎ Inaugural Session of the Central Municipal Chapter of Japan (Jul. 16)
The inaugural session of the Central Municipal Chapter of Japan was held on Jul. 16 at Castle Plaza and attended by 100 people including Jang Young-sik, chief of the municipal chapter, NUAC members in the area, and overseas Koreans living in the area.

- National unification may come true one day during the term of the 17th NUAC. We should be ready for it considering what our roles should be,” Jang said in his opening speech.
According to Park Hwan-sun, Korean Consul General to Nagoya, the roles of NUAC members are tremendously important now more than ever on the 70th anniversary of national independence. “I wish each of the NUAC members paves the way to the peaceful unification of Korea,” he added.
◎ Inaugural Session of the Western Municipal Chapter of Japan (Jul. 17)
The inaugural session was held on Jul. 17 at Palsunkak and attended by 80 Koreans living in the western part of Japan including Oh Gong-tae, Vice-chairperson of the Japan Assembly, Oh Jung-bu, chief of the Western Municipal Chapter, and NUAC members in the area.

- “I thank the NUAC members in our area for their efforts to promote the unification movements for the peaceful unification of Korea. Overseas Koreans are required to integrate their ability to achieve unification and develop Korea,” said Oh Jung-bu, chief of the Western Municipal Chapter, in his opening speech
Park Jin-woong, Korean Consul General to Fukuoka, noted in his congratulatory address that the Western Municipal Chapter of Japan is close to the Korean Peninsula, having direct interest in Korea. “Therefore, not only Korean communities in this area but also local Japanese societies are paying keen attention to the situation of the Korean Peninsula. We should try to spread recognition to the people in Japan that the unification of the Korean Peninsula will be a bonanza to all surrounding countries as well as the future Korea,” he added.
Park Hak-min, manager of the Public Opinion Analysis Division of NUAC, reported the “Goals of Activities and Promotion of Subjects of the 17th-term NUAC” and “Major Projects of Overseas Assemblies in the Second Half of 2015” for overseas members to understand their roles and function.
- Park Chan-bong, Secretary General of NUAC, gave a special lecture on the “Roles of Overseas Koreans in National Unification” to the attendees. “NUAC members in Japan have been sharing joys and sorrows with the Republic of Korea as well as devotion to upgrade their fatherland to advanced country level. We appreciate it. National unification should be realized for Korea to be an advanced first-class country in the world, and I wish all of us, at home or abroad, will endeavor for Korea to soar high once again,” he added.
The ceremony ended with all the attendees singing the Unification Song.
