The joint meeting of city and provincial youth committee heads and representatives of unification clubs was held on Jan. 27 at the secretariat to discuss the promotion of meaningful business of unification by the youth in commemoration of the 70th anniversary of national liberation.

30 participants including youth committee heads, 2030 council members, and representatives of unification clubs attended the meeting.

The joint meeting between the council members and unification club representatives was held for the second time – following the one held in Gyeongju last year – to enable group discussions about the unification project by the youth in commemoration of the 70th National Liberation Day.

Hyun Kyung-dae, executive Vice-chairperson, and Park Chan-bong, secretary general of NUAC, delivered welcome remarks to the attendants.

Hyun welcomed the youth, noting that their strength is needed to rewrite Korea’s history of division. “We gather here today to discuss what we should do to overcome the 70-year division of our fatherland. Discussion is not the end-all and be-all of everything, and it should be put into action. The real strength of the youth comes from ‘action’,” he added.

Secretary General Park thanked the youth committee heads and representatives of college student unification clubs for attending and said that participation in the joint meeting is the first step of action required.

The attendees exchanged various views on the unification project in commemoration of the 70th National Liberation Day with discussion host Jun Jae-won, head of the Gangwon Province Youth Committee. Participants concluded the joint meeting, summarizing and supplementing the various opinions raised during the meeting.
