The “2014 Young Generation Conference“ was held in Vancouver, Canada, from Nov. 20 through 22 to strengthen the capabilities of young NUAC members in Americas and expand unification activities through international communication and exchanges.

The conference was organized under the subject of “Unification–Our Hope and Future of the Korean Peninsula” where 120 members attended including Hyun Kyung-dae, Executive Vice-chairperson of NUAC, Kim Ki-chol, Vice-chairperson of Americas Assembly, Seo Byeong-gil, head of the Vancouver Municipal Chapter, as well as youth council members from 20 municipal chapters from the U.S., Canada and South American countries.

Hyun mentioned in his keynote address that, “The most important subject and goal given to us living in this era is ‘Unification Bonanza’ and ‘Human Rights Unification.’ North Koreans will support us when we are determined to save 25 million North Koreans from severe human rights violations and when we are willing to share freedom and prosperity with them. Members of the National Unification Advisory Council (NUAC) and the passion and enthusiasm of young members are essential in promoting national unification. I wish you will invest all of your efforts with firm conviction that the Fatherland will survive while the young people are strong and devoted.”

A special lecture under the subject of “Unification is Our Hope and Future” was given by Yuna Martin, federal senator of Canada. He said, “I feel unusual pain as one of the displaced family members used to live in North Korea. When I heard the accounts of the North Korean refugees who escaped from a country that violates human rights and suffers from impoverishment, I believe the two Koreas should be united as early as possible.” He also promised to help the North Korean refugees.

After the activities of the young council members of each municipal chapter were introduced, they had group discussions entitled, “Methods to Build Trust Between the South and North Korea While Pursuing Unification,” “Revitalization of History and Unification Education for the Young Generation,” “Enhancing the Consciousness and Unification Movement of the Youth,” and “Strengthening the Roles of Overseas Koreans to Improve the Human Rights of North Korea.”
