Inauguration Address

• It is my great honor to serve as Secretary General of the National Unification Advisory Council, and I feel a tremendous sense of responsibility and mission.
  To my fellow staff members --
  This year is very important for us. It is the first year of President Park Geun-hye's term, and the year the 16th National Unification Advisory Council is launched.
  
  The era of happiness and hope of the people is emphasized now more than ever as the new direction of government administration. But it cannot be achieved by the President alone. All of us should make our best efforts.
  
  I believe the National Unification Advisory Council can play an important role in that regard. Members of the Council foster the environment for achieving the era of national unification wherein the people can cherish hope and dream a happy dream. The secretariat's office is there to support the members at home and abroad in undertaking such role.
  
  The President of the state serves as the Chairperson of the National Unification Advisory Council. Therefore, we should understand the philosophy of the President toward national unification, and the policy for the North should be promoted according to such philosophy of the President.
  
  To accomplish the task of the Council, we should find and designate as members persons who have strong will for national unification, participate in the activities of the Council actively, and exercise their duties most dynamically. We need young and talented new figures as well as those with extensive experience and professional background. The Council shall consist of every kind and class of people such as young and old, progressive and conservative, and moderate.
  
  Proper composition of human resources is essential for any organization to develop and succeed. We should arrange the people working in various fields and classes of our society; those who are respected by the neighbors and who represent the area and vocation should be assigned as members of our Council.
  
  In addition, we should establish new targets for our activities and suggest future-oriented visions by looking beyond the era of national unification. Such can only be achieved by our creative and positive efforts.
  
  I will and can do it with all of you. It cannot be achieved if I am alone, but you are with me.
  
  Let us do it with our Executive Vice-chairperson, sustaining the achievements made by former Secretary General Nam Sung-wook.
  
  Let us open a new era of national unification.
