Unification Golden Bell contests, which aim to establish a correct view of the nation, unification, and history for overseas youth and to increase their interest in and understanding of unification of the Korean peninsula, are being held by overseas chapters and branches.
Last May 7, the Africa Chapter (head: Hwang Jae-kil) held the “History·Unification Golden Bell” at Cape Town Stellenbosch Korean School and Johannesburg Korean School.
The Golden Bell competition held in Stellenbosch Korean School had three divisions: elementary, middle, and high school. Students in the competition participated with the determination to ring the last golden bell. In the middle and high school divisions, two students drew attention by having a very close competition for ringing the last golden bell to the end.
The competition in Stellenbosch Korean School was administered by the Cape Town Branch and participated in by around 100 people from the regions of Cape Town and Stellenbosch. On the other hand, the Golden Bell competition in Johannesburg Korean School was participated in by around 200 people including Korean students living in Johannesburg and Pretoria, parents, and members of Korean institutions and organizations.
The England Chapter (head: Lee Jong-koo) also held a Unification Golden Bell competition last May 7 at Chessington Korean School with around 200 participants including the Korean youth in England, parents, teachers, and leaders of Korean organizations. Various special quiz events, such as “guessing North Korean words,” were held for parents and overseas residents.
Last April 30, the Holland Branch hosted the Unification Golden Bell contest at Rotterdam Korean School for middle and high school students as well.
