The Paju Municipal Chapter (head: Kim Kyung-sun) of Gyeonggi-do held the 6th Country Love Debate Competition at the Paju camp of the Gygonggi Do Provincial Institute for Lifelong Learning on February 16-17 in order to raise high school students’ understanding and interest in unification.

This debate competition, which was jointly held with KyeongGi Ilbo, was attended by around 120 youths. Students presented their opinions on the given topic by forming a group of 5 people and debating with affirmative and opposition sides.

The debate competition was held with 6 topics: △Should support for North Korean defectors be expanded? △Should Gaeseong Industrial Complex be reopened? △Should the General Security of Military Information Agreement between Korea and Japan be invalidated? △Should our generation prepare for the costs of unification? △Should the system of presidency in Korea be changed to a decentralized system?

The assessment and judgment for the debate competition were done by the judgment committee consisting of experts based on the following criteria: understanding on the topic; method of presenting the opinions; logical validity and faithfulness, and; level of cooperation. Prior to the debate competition, the youth who participated in the debate competition engaged in activities for security experience at DMZ such as the 3rd Tunnel and Dora Observatory.
