“Unified Korea through Women’s Power”
New method of proceeding with a meeting using Kakao Talk
  • 2015 Policy Meeting for Chiefs of Women’s Standing Committees on Feb. 5 and 6

The 2015 Policy meeting for the chiefs of the Women’s Standing Committees of NUAC (National Unification Advisory Council) was held presided by Jin Myeong-hi, chief of women’s committee of Chungcheongnam-do, on Feb. 5 and 6 at Yoosung Hotel in Daejeon to share ways of conducting activities of women council members and to discuss the business this year.
A total of 226 female leaders from all over the country attended the policy meeting to discuss “Ways of Promotion for female-centered National Unification to prepare for the National Unification.”
In particular, group chatting over Kakao Talk messenger was held simultaneously to proceed with the meeting program, attracting participation of council members very efficiently.
“I appreciate the good results you obtained through the ‘One to Five Movement to Meet the National Unification,’ one of the most important projects promoted by the 16th NUAC. Supporting the North Korean refugees is not merely a matter of improving their welfare or a slogan but a rehearsal of national unification to prepare to unify South and North,” said Hyun Kyung-dae, Executive Vice-chairperson of NUAC.
He added that, since improving human rights in North Korea is the most important part of national unification in liberal democracy, each municipal chapter is requested to promote the relevant activities more actively.

Shin Eun-sook, director of Council Member Activities Bureau of NUAC, gave a report on the “2015 Plan of Women’s Business,” whereas NUAC Spokeswoman Anna Kim reported on the “Current Status and Operation of NUAC SNS.”
The 2015 plan of women’s business describes how to revitalize preparation for and participation in the era of unification by enhancing the capabilities of women members of NUAC at the state, city, province, and county levels.

Park Chan-bong, Secretary General of NUAC, attended the policy meeting to have a dialogue with women members. “Those who can promote activities to help North Koreans adapt themselves to our society and achieve national integration while promoting unification are the women members present at this meeting. South and North becoming a family – that is the way to make the nation and people happy,” he said.
Women members worried about a possible setback in NUAC’s business because the term of the 16th NUAC expires in June. Secretary General Park assured them that only about 50% of the members would be replaced, and that the remaining members could act as a connecting ring between the current and next terms of NUAC. In this regard, the secretariat would continue to promote all businesses taking into account the expired tenure.

Meanwhile, the group talk, which presented the results of group discussions during the two-day event, was the most popular among the attendants. They discussed programs to celebrate the 70th anniversary of independence by each city and province and its brand business.
A total of 8 cities and provinces gave presentations. The Seoul municipal chapters gave a presentation on the “Rally to Sympathize with National Unification by the Women,” Gangwon-do, on “Establishing DMZ (demilitarized zone) Peace Park and Unification Concert,” and Jeollabuk-do, on “Preparation for Unification with the descendants of Independence Patriots.” On the other hand, 9 cities and provinces including Busan Municipal Chapters presented the brand business focused on supporting the North Korean refugees for their successful settlement in South Korea. The business presented during the meeting will go through further modification and supplementation for finalization.
In the “National unification in one sentence” contest, attendants were asked how to prepare for unification, and the answer was submitted through Kakao Talk messenger. The best answer selected was “Cooking Rice” by Han Gi-suk (Tongyeong, Gyeongsangnam-do). According to her, rice is cooked by heat, and now is the time for the rice to be boiled, and we will eat delicious, well-steamed rice soon. Yu Seon-yeong (Gwangju, Gyeonggi-do) and Woo Yeong-hye (Geochang, Gyeongsangnam-do) were awarded for their best certification shot by mobile phone.
Women members of NUAC were satisfied with the meeting, which made use of Kakao Talk messenger, and felt proud of the unification business promoted actively by women in every city of Korea on the occasion of the 70th anniversary of independence.
