The Brazil Chapter (head: Park Dae-geun) held on April 18 a lecture conference on North Korean human rights at Bom Retiro Korea Town with around 100 participants including representatives of the Korean community such as Kim Yo-jin, Korean community president, overseas community members, and council members.
In the lecture, Greg Scarlatoiu, Executive Director of the Washington D.C.-based Committee for Human Rights in North Korea (HRNK), gave a lecture on human rights. "More developments can be achieved if North Korean residents know more about the outside world. It is important, more than anything, for North Korean residents to gain knowledge about the outside world," he explained.
Executive Director Scarlatoui added that North Korea will not give up its nuclear weapon because it is a passport for securing the system and demanding economic rewards, but forecast that the terror politics by Kim Jong-un will not last long.
Last March, the Brazil Chapter published the monthly <Unification Korea> as a unification project in order to increase understanding of unification and to expand the foundation of support for unification by the Brazilian mainstream community and Korean compatriots. Published for the first time in an overseas municipal chapter, <Unification Korea> includes contents on the legitimacy and importance of peaceful unification in the Korean peninsula, history of Korea and identity of Korean people, and excellence of its cultural arts. It will be published every 20th as a 20-page colored material.
