The San Francisco Municipal Chapter (Head: Chung Seung-duk) held the "2nd Grassroots Conference" on March 4 and 5 at the Crown Plaza Hotel in Foster City. At this event, which was co-sponsored by the Korean-American Chamber of Commerce, USA, 100 Koreans living abroad including those not only from San Francisco but also from Los Angeles, Seattle, Dallas, and Washington D.C. attended.
During the conference, which set as its goal growing the political power of Korean society by attending to various issues of the leading society of the United States, Kim Dong-seok, executive director of the Korean-American Grassroots Movement Headquarters, and Song Won-seok, New York Grassroots secretary general, gave lectures on "What is the grassroots movement?" and "How is the grassroots movement done and how to participate," respectively. Kim Han-il, representative of the Jin Duck & Kyung Sik Kim Foundation, requested “spreading the fact that Dokdo Island is our territory and paying attention to protecting Dokdo Island” and stressed that active political participation is the way to grow Korean society’s power.
At the conference on February 27, 6:00pm at the Mitchell Park Community Center in Palo Alto, Korean Consulate in San Francisco, Han Dong-man was invited as presenter to talk about "Northeast Asia’s state of affairs and Korea’s reunification plan." The Han Dong-man consulate explained the influence of North Korea’s long-range ballistic missile launching experiment on Northeast Asia relations and North-South relations, main subject of the United State’s sanctions on North Korea, and status quo of human rights in North Korea, necessity of reunification of the Korean peninsula, and international competitiveness of a unified Korea.
On this day at the conference, Human Rights Foundation (HRF)’s North Korea Human Rights Movement top manager Alex Gladstein slammed the reality of human rights in North Korea and unveiled the USB drive that will be presented to North Korean citizens.
