The Central America-the Caribbean Municipal Chapter (Head: Oh Byeong-mun) held a ceremony in commemoration of the 70 years of Korea's independence. Attended by more than 1,000 people including Korean descendants and locals, the event was held at the Korea-Cuba Cultural Club in the new town of Habana, the capital city of Cuba, on August 16, 2015.
Rascano Lopez, senior deputy director of the Jose Marti Culture Center in Cuba, and Hahm Kim, chairman of the Korean Descendants’ Association, were among the attendees. The event featured traditional Korean performances such as Hwangmubongnyu Sanjo Dance, with Korean descendants singing arirang.
"We strongly support the peaceful unification of the divided Korean Peninsula,” Deputy Director Lopez said. On the other hand, Chairman Oh cited the need to reflect on the meanings of the 70th anniversary of Korea's independence and renew our determination toward the unification of the Korean Peninsula.
The Korea-Cuba Culture Club, the venue for the event, was built last August led by council members from 13 countries of the Caribbean Chapter in Central America. It serves as a venue for promoting Korean culture, Korean language schools, and communication and exchange between Korean descendants and local people.
