Central America and Caribbean Municipal Chapter (Head : Oh Byeong-mun) held on August 11 and 12, 2013 a special cultural event commemorating the 68th Liberation Day in Havana, Cuba. The event consisted of showing of film introducing the development of South Korea and concerning Liberation Day as well as performances by a group of artists and the chorus of Arirang.
The special event was held to trace the independence activities carried out by Koreans who settled in Cuba, ruminate about the meaning of Liberation Day, and promote pride in their identity as Koreans among Korean-Cubans. The event was attended by 200 people, including the Director of the Cuban Revolution Culture Center and representatives of Korean associations. Korean-Cubans number about 1,200.
“It is our sincere wish to have something like the Korean-Cuban Hall, which will serve as a point of convergence for Koreans and keep records of the history of Korean-Cubans,” Antonio Kim, Chairperson of the Korean-Cuban Association said. Construction of such building has been on the agenda of the Caribbean Branch of the Latin America Municipal Chapter. A meaningful result is expected with regard to such within the category permitted by the Cuban government.
On July 31, 2013, the Latin America Municipal Chapter held the meeting for the launch of the 16th term of NUAC members at the Sheraton Hotel in Mexico City, Unification Golden Bell designed to instill patriotism and commitment to national unification in the minds of young Korean-Cubans, and an essay/speech contest on national unification.
