In his lecture titled "Unification of the Korean Peninsula is a Bonanza to the World Beyond Northeast Asia," Hyun said that the unification would bring lots of benefits not only to Korea but also to the surrounding countries. He asked for the keen interest and participation of Korean societies in Japan regarding the unification of Korea.
“The division of the Korean peninsula is not just simply cutting its waist into two; the colossal economic region of Eurasia is cut in its waist. The unification of the Korean peninsula is an urgent issue to be solved for the prosperity of the world as well as the Korean peninsula, Japan, and Eurasia,“ he stressed.
Hyun cited the analysis made by some related experts in the surrounding countries, who said that the unification of the Korean Peninsula would bring more than US$200billion worth of economic gains to the 4 big powers surrounding Korea as well as great benefit and positive change to Japan as well.

Hyun showed satellite photos of the Korean peninsula taken at night, which show no light in the upper half of the Korean peninsula. According to him, they are real evidence of how North Korean people lead their life without light at night and heat during the cold season. Unification should be achieved to overcome such miserable situation as well, he added.
Hyun also asked for the members’ interest in the human rights situation of North Korea.
He cited President Park’s keynote address last Sep. 24 at the UN regarding the human rights situation in North Korea and stressed that we should never forget or pretend not to be aware of the abominable human rights suppression in the North, and that we should concentrate on addressing such inhuman situation.
Finally, Hyun encouraged the council members in Japan. "We are proud of Korean residents in Japan for their successful settlement in Japan, having overcome the difficulties. Harmony and cooperation among them can be the foundation for achieving national unification," he added.
On the other hand, Prof. Lee Jong-won of Waseda Univ. of Japan gave a special lecture on "Korea-Japan Relations and State of Affairs in Northeast Asia."
