ソウル市中区・城東区 - 「北朝鮮離脱住民と小さな統一の達成」北フェスティバル開催
ソウル市中区・城東区, 2015-05-01 ~ 2015-05-05

The Jung-gu and Seongdong-gu Chapters in Seoul (Heads: Lee Ki-sun and Jeong Jong-cheol, respectively) held a book festival titled "Embracing Unification Ahead of its Advent” under the slogan "achieving small unification with North Korean defectors" at Chungmu Art Hall plaza and Wangsimni Station plaza, respectively, from May 1 to May 5, 2015.

During the festival, scholarships were presented to young North Korean defectors; "mentoring cards" were also handed over to North Korean defectors in the hope of helping them better integrate into Korean society. In addition, a campaign was launched under the banner of "preparing for a small unification with NUAC and understanding the value of unification.”

As part of the "achieve small unification" initiative, applications were received from ordinary citizens who wish to make friends with others in the same or similar age group and share their ideas on and wishes for unification. On May 5, the last day of the event, which also was Children's Day, other programs -- such as folding of Mugungwha (rose of Sharon), Korea's national flower, face painting, and sharing of balloons -- were concurrently held as a way of expressing and sharing wishes and for unification and for participants to get involved and enjoy.

All proceeds from the festival will go to Central and Seongdong Offices of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and NAUH, a youth group dedicated to promoting human rights in North Korea, to fund efforts to make a unified Korea a reality as early as possible.

The book festival was made possible by the Kyobo Book Center, NAUH, Jung-gu Office, Central Office of Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, children’s daycare centers in Jung-gu, Seongdong-gu Office, Seongdong-gu Police Station, and members of women's societies in Seongdong-gu.
