The Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly (Vice-chairperson : Lee Sang-cheon) held the 20th annual seminar on the subject of the North's Third Nuclear Test and Peace Process at Kyungpook National University (KPU) on March 21, 2013. At the seminar presided over by Professor Choi Cheol-yeong of Daegu University, more than 150 people attended including NUAC council members, members of the Gyeongbuk Peaceful Unification Forum, and students. Researcher Park Hyong-jung of the Korea Institute for National Unification gave a presentation, with Professor Jeon Hyeon-su (Director of the Institute of Peace at KPU) and Professor Jeong Byeong-gi (Deputy Director of the Unification Research Institute at Yeungnam University) taking part in the debate session.
"The recent provocations by the North are part of its strategy for survival. The new government of the South should adopt its North Korean policy focused on the non-nuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, South-led inter-Korea relations, establishment of peace system, and provision of support for the North's innovation and door opening," Dr. Park Hyeong-jung, another debater, said.
Other opinions presented at the debate session dealt with the effect of the UN's sanctions on the North and the reason for the non-appearance of the desired effects on the North.
