Secretary General Kwon Tae-oh invited to host the 2017 Europe-India unification lecture conference
The 2017 Europe-India unification lecture conference was held from February 4 to 10 in Berlin, Germany (Feb. 4), Vienna, Austria (Feb. 7), and Delhi, India (Feb. 10) by overseas Korean societies to spread awareness on unification for the unification policies of the government, receive public opinions, and reinforce the capabilities of overseas council members on unification issues.
"Resolutions 2270 and 2321 of the Security Council in 2016 were the most stringent resolutions in the 70-year history of the UN with regard to non-military measures. When accompanied by sanctions of the international society and participation by China, the effects for deterring North Korean nuclear weapon will likely be shown after 2~3 years," said NUAC Secretary General Kwon Tae-oh at the lecture, emphasizing the importance of consistent response by the international society on nuclear experiments and series of missile provocations by North Korea.
According to Secretary General Kwon, in order to convert the current crisis in and out of the country into opportunity, all 80 million Korean people need to have consistent desire for unification regarding the issues of unification. He expressed his gratitude "for the works of council members living in overseas countries as Koryo-saram, miners, nurses, and entrepreneurs and constructing the virtual overseas territory of the Korean people.”
Council members and local compatriots attending the round-tour conference believed that the lecture conference served as an opportunity for gaining an accurate understanding of the environment in the Korean Peninsula for unification and on nuclear and missile provocations by North Korea and for actively supporting the peaceful unification of their motherland.

  • "The experience of unification by Korean residents in Germany, who directly experienced the German unification and who are experiencing the advantages and disadvantages of unification, needs to be utilized as a precious asset to prepare for the unification of our people," said North European Chapter Head Choi Wol-ah in his opening address.

2017 Unification Lecture Conference in Austria on Feb. 7 (Tue.) at Korea Kulturhaus Österreich, Hosted by the Europe Assembly

  • In his opening address, Park Jong-bum, Vice-chairperson of the Europe Assembly, noted that, among the stringent realities facing major countries around the world, which are only thinking about their own profits to an extreme degree, as well as continuous provocations by North Korea, overseas Korean residents need to think sincerely about how they can help their motherland.

  • In his congratulatory speech, Shin Dong-ik, Korean Ambassador to Austria, expressed belief that, despite the anxiety on the launching of the Trump government in the US, the solidity of the Korea-US alliance and strong willingness for defense against North Korean provocations have been confirmed and asked the audience to make efforts in mitigating the tension in the Korean Peninsula and achieving peaceful unification by joining forces with friendly neighbor countries.

2017 Unification lecture conference in India on Feb. 10 (Fri.) at Vivanta Taj Hotel, hosted by the Southwest Asia Chapter

  • In his welcome address, Shim Sang-man, head of the India Branch of the Southwest Asia Chapter, noted that Korea is placed in a very grave situation in and out of the country and argued that we need to have clear recognition of the current situation in order to overcome such crisis situation.

  • In his congratulatory address, Um Kyung-ho, head of the Southwest Asia Chapter, emphasized the importance of India as a rising country and expressed gratitude for the hard works of council members at the Indian Chapter who prepared for the unification lecture conference held in Delhi for the first time. According to him, the 17th term of the Southwest Asia Chapter, which consists of multiple countries, was an opportunity for revitalizing the Chapter as groups from each country actively held lecture conferences and various unification activities on their own.

o There are 27 million overseas compatriots in India, and the Indian government is using them to come up with plans for overcoming poverty and achieving economic development.
o Overseas compatriots of India include government officials of the United Kingdom and Canada as well as CEOs of major corporations like Google and Pepsi. A Prime Minister of the United Kingdom with Indian background may be produced in the future, and we need to prepare for the era of G3 (USA, China, India).
o If Korea achieved its last 20 years of growth by advancing into China and reaping its fruits while Japan was hesitant, Korea needs to implement a strategy of realizing growth alongside the rise of India for the next 30 years.
o Beyond introducing the reputations of Samsung Electronics, which is maintaining a solid first place in the Indian mobile market (48%), and Hyundai Motor Company, a consistent no. 1 in the imported automobile market (20%), active interest and investments by the youth and entrepreneurs in Korea are required to advance into India, a land of opportunity.
