    Attendants in the 2015 Youth Conference of the American Region

The 2015 Youth Conference of the American Region was organized by the Central America Caribbean Municipal Chapter on March 19th – 21st at Marriott Reforma Hotel in Mexico City.
A total of 90 council members from 11 countries including the USA, Canada, and Central America, who belong to the America Provincial Assembly, attended the conference titled “Unification Prepared by the Youth”. Special lectures were given by unification experts, followed by group discussion and activity case presentation along with a 3-minute unification speech.

“It is important for the young council members to form a network for a bond of sympathy with the human rights issue in North Korea in the countries where they live in. The youth should recognize the justifiability of national unification and pay attention to the positive effect after unification”, Oh said in his opening speech.

In his welcome speech, Korean Ambassador to Mexico Hong Sung-hwa stressed that joint efforts by overseas Koreans from each and every field are desperately required in the course of making international environments favorable for the unification of the Korean peninsula. “I wish this conference will provide the attendants with a valuable opportunity to strengthen their will for national unification”, he added.

According to Kim, youth council members should help their friends pay attention to unification activities and play the role of bridging different generations in spreading the bond of sympathy with national unification.

“Today, diplomacy is not the exclusive business of a government but is carried out broadly by public and private sectors. Youth council members play a key role in public diplomacy of the Republic of Korea. Therefore, you should be more active in drawing the interest and support of the mainstream of the countries where you live in with regard to the issue of unification of the Korean peninsula,” Hyun said in his keynote address.

A special lecture titled “Exciting Unification Diplomacy by the Global Korean Youth” was given by Park Ki-tae, director of VANK (Voluntary Agency Network of Korea). This was followed by a lecture by In Se-ban, chairman of the Eugene Bell Foundation, who also introduced the current status of medical support for North Korea by the Eugene Bell Foundation. Dr. Sumiteri gave another lecture on the subject of unification and challenge.

Three municipal chapters in the Central and South American regions introduced their activities; the young council members in the region were divided into 4 groups for discussion and presentation to prepare for national unification by the youth.
A 3-minute speech by the attendants during the conference was a good opportunity for them to present their opinion freely.

Hyun, Executive Vice-chairperson of NUAC, and other council members visited the Korea-Cuba Cultural Club to meet Korean offspring in Cuba and encouraged them.
