NUAC pledges to be a keeper of public safety in every corner of society to build a safe Korea.
The Executive Committee of NUAC (128th meeting) was held for the first time on May 8 since the Sewol ferry disaster occurred, with the members unanimously adopting a special resolution dubbed “Self-examination and pledge of NUAC to the people,”wherein NUAC promises to be a keeper of public safety, social safety, and national safety to monitor and reportany unlawfulness, irregularity, expedient, and absurdity to build a safe Korea based on safety and reliability.
"The tragedy of the Sewol ferry disaster was caused by various kinds of evil accumulated and rooted deeply in our society. NUAC inevitably feels a sense of responsibility as one of the members of the Korean community. NUAC shares common understanding that accidentssuch as the Sewol ferry incident harm not only national security but also the wish for national unification,” NUAC said in its resolution.

NUAC urges the government to inspect and eradicate the insensitivity to safety and national security, which is prevalent in society, and the harmful elements that aid and abet it. A total of 20,000 NUAC members will play a positive role in building a safe society and join the government-level renovations actively.
NUAC accepts the criticism against the older generation humbly, and it will be at the forefront of correcting wrong practice and strengthening national integrity and competitiveness by converting the abnormal into normal. "We will make our best efforts to turn Koreainto a unified country that guarantees the safety of individuals and national security to the generations to come through introspection so that the older generations can be trusted and respected by the growing generations," the resolution declared.
The resolution proposes the following: ▲suggest nationwide inspection and solution; ▲actively join the government-wide safety reform; ▲take action against accumulated evil and abuse, and seek national integrity; ▲ perform social obligations by practicing noblesse oblige; and finally, ▲realize a unified country where national safety and security are guaranteed.

"First of all, we and I myself should examine ourselves on the occasion of the recent tragedy. We should be at the forefront to make Korea safe while we grieve for the victims and their bereaved families,"Hyeon Kyeong-dae, Executive Deputy Chairperson of NUAC, said in his opening speech.
According to Hyun, if we are sick in bed because one part of our body is ill, other healthy parts of our body become weak as well. When each part performs its own function properly, the sick part can recoversoon, and the whole body becomes healthy, he added.
"The secretariat will improve monitoring safety elements around NUAC by evaluating them more thoroughly, avoiding routine and customary manner," vowed Park Chan-bong, Secretary General of NUAC. He introduced the reorganization of the office to the members.
The Executive Committee decided to invite the student soldiersresiding in Japan and who participated in the Korea War. They joined the War voluntarily to defend their motherland when the Korean army was pushed back by North Korean invaders into the final defending front of Nakdong River near Busan on the last southern tip of the Korean peninsula. Inviting them,whoare living in Japan, will be an opportunity to enhance people's awareness of national security and unification.
Meanwhile, Kim Gi-woong, director for Unification Policy of the Ministry of Unification, evaluated the current status between South and North and explained the direction of promoting the policy concerned.

NUAC realizes that the Sewol ferry disaster that occurred last Apr.16 is a man-made catastrophe due to various kinds of abuse and evil rooted deeply in our societyand accepts responsibility accordingly as one of the members of the Korean community.
NUAC shares in the sorrow and agony of the bereaved families who lost their young sons and daughters. NUAC will be a keeper of public safety, social safety, and national safety to monitor and bring to court any unlawfulness, irregularity, expedient, and absurdity. NUACshares common understanding that accidentssuch as the Sewol ferry incident harm not only national security but also the wish for national unification.Therefore, NUAC makes the following resolution:
NUAC strongly urges the government to inspect and eradicate the insensitivity tosafety and national security, which is prevalent in society, and the harmful elements that aid and abet it. The 20,000 members of NUAC will play a positive role in building a safe society and jointhe government-level renovations actively.
NUAC will join the government-wide reform most positively to abolish illegality, tort, corruption, back-scratching alliance of the government and private sector, insensitivity to safety, which causeslarge-scale accidents and disasters like the Sewol Ferry, and enhance governance by law, transparency, and social reliability.
NUAC will be at the forefront to shun the abuse and evil accumulated in all areas including public, political, economy, culture, and civil society sectors and realize the conversion of the abnormal into normal for purposes of national integrity and competitiveness.
NUAC will realize the spirit of Noblesse Oblige most positively, and it will be reborn as an organization of sacrifice and service, building a society where the obligations and rights of the community members are harmonized and balanced.
NUAC will exert its best efforts to turn Korea into a unified country that guarantees the safety of individuals and national security to the generations to come through introspection so that the older generations can be trusted and respected by the growing generations.
