The medical volunteers’ group of the National Unification Advisory Council (NUAC) (headed by Kim Cheol-su, chairman of H+ Yangji Hospital) provided free medical care services to North Korean defectors on April 19, 2015 at Heungdeok Police Station in Cheongju, Chungcheongbuk-do (Chungbuk).
A group of ten medical professionals including Kim conducted general medical checkup and treatment for around 100 North Korean defectors residing in the Chungbuk area in fields such as dentistry, internal medicine, ophthalmology, neurosurgery, orthopedics, and oriental medicine.
Hyosung Hospital in Cheongju (chairman: Oh Chang-jin) provided an x-ray machine-equipped vehicle, which was essential for medical checkup and diagnosis; the Chungbuk Opticians’ Association (chairman: Byeon Hyo-seop) conducted vision tests and supplied free glasses for those who needed them. Hyun Kyung-dae, Executive Vice-chairperson, made his presence felt in the event even though it was a holiday, expressing his support for North Korean defectors.
