Cheonan Municipal Chapter (Head: Kim Seung-tae) of Chungnam held the international unification symposium for college students under the theme "Unification of South and North Korea and World Peace from the Viewpoint of College Students" last Nov. 20 at Sunmoon University.
The symposium was organized jointly with Sunmoon University (President: Hwang Seon-jo), and 300 persons attended the event including council members, college students, and local residents. Foreign students of the graduate and undergraduate schools of the university presented their views on the unification of Korea and world peace, attracting considerable attention.
Lee Ja-in from Malaysia (sophomore of the International Leisure Tourism Dept.) presided over the symposium, where Yang Yi-sun (sophomore of the International Relations Dept.) talked about the subject. Yang Hee-jae from Korea, Takahashi Takihiro from Japan, Choi Myung-ryang from China, Amy Morris from the USA, and Kolupaeva Lidia from Russia also gave their views on the subject.
"A divided Korean peninsula has been bringing about much pains and disadvantages to Korean people in the aspects of history, economy, ideology, and culture. But such disadvantages and inconveniences can be overcome by the national unification of Korea. It will be necessary to make the college students’ unification club more active in studying and discussing the unification of the two Koreas and holding the unification symposium every year to draw more attention to the issue from the students," Yang Yi-sun said.
