Report on the Status of Major Works of 2016 and Discussion of Development Tasks of NUAC
Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol: “We must strive wholeheartedly to overcome North Korea’s nuclear power and unite public opinion”
The 137th NUAC Executive Committee (Chief: Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol) was convened at 10:30 am on July 14 in the conference room of the Secretariat of NUAC. In attendance were 40 people, including vice-chairpersons of 17 provincial and municipal chapters, vice-chairpersons of the 5 North Korean provincial assemblies, female vice-chairpersons, vice-chairperson of the China Assembly, vice-chairperson of the Europe Assembly, standing committee chief, and functional committee members.
  • Executive committee

The executive committee extensively discussed the status of NUAC’s major works in the first half of 2016, including the 17th Conference of Domestic and Overseas Provincial Assemblies as well as the development tasks and direction of activities.
  • Executive Vice-chairperson’s opening speech

“For the past six months, NUAC showed unity of public opinion and spread of awareness of unification in order to overcome the nuclear threat from North Korea. Let’s strive even more to unite the public’s hearts and lead North Korea to true change, once and for all,” Executive Vice-chairperson Yoo Ho-yeol said in his opening speech.
According to him, the conflict between our neighboring nations caused by the recent THAAD placement problem could lead to danger, even though it’s a problem that can be solved. He stressed that NUAC’s role is to unite the public’s spirit and guide it to a single goal.
  • Unification Policy Counsel Chief’s work status report

Afterward, Unification Policy Counsel Chief Kim Jeom-joon gave a status report on the major works such as the 17th Domestic and Overseas Conferences of Provincial Assemblies, policy proposals, convergence of public opinion, communication with the public and expansion of unification awareness, strengthening of council members’ unification competence, and expansion of overseas unification support basis.
The Conference of Domestic Provincial Assemblies held from June 14 to July 7 with 17 municipal/ provincial and 5 Northern provincial assemblies – with “the Chairperson’s video message,” selection of “Resolution Condemning North Korea’s Nuclear Power and Uniting Public Opinion,” and participation of around 10,800 council members -- was deemed to have contributed to overcoming the North Korean nuclear threat and uniting public opinion.
Likewise, the two Conferences of Overseas Provincial Assemblies attended by council members from the US, Japan, China, Canada, and Latin America were regarded as opportunities through which overseas council members could understand the government’s unification policies through the “Conversation on Unification with the Chairperson” and attain a strong sense of responsibility and courage as council members.
  • Deliberation of Agenda

Finally, for the development of NUAC, they decided to activate the executive committee further, share excellent activity examples of each municipal chapter, and diversify the direction of works as well as actively explore cooperative works with the organic organizations and groups of NUAC to expand its outside connections.
