The 133rd Executive Committee (Chief: Hyun Kyung-dae) meeting of NUAC was held on July 22 at the NUAC conference room in Seoul, Korea. It was the first of its kind since the 17th-term NUAC was launched last July 1, and it proceeded with △ opening speech by Hyun Kyung-dae, Executive Vice-chairperson of NUAC, △ greetings by Park Chan-bong, Secretary General of NUAC, △ reporting of major activities of NUAC in the second half of the year, △ deliberation and decision of the sub-committees, and △ discussion of other agenda.

“The issues of this era are to let the North Korean people enjoy freedom and prosperity by achieving national unification as early as possible and make contributions to the peace of Northeast Asia and the world along with a great leap of our people. We should not miss national unification when a historical opportunity is given to us, and I wish executive committee members will do their best, bearing in mind their historical responsibility and vocation,” Hyun said in his opening speech.

He added that President Park Geun-hye is the first president of the Republic of Korea to express strong will for national unification clearly when she had summit talks with foreign leaders and asked their cooperation for it. The 17th-term NUAC should support the will of the President most positively, he stressed.

Park Chan-bong, Secretary General, said that the 17th-term NUAC will promote the unification preparation for it to be more materialized, localized, and internationalized more intensively, since it was launched at a time when NUAC should enrich the substance of the keynote of state affairs to build the foundation for peaceful unification and bear the fruits of national aim.

Kim Jeom-jun, Planning and Coordination Officer of NUAC, reported the △ organization of the 17th-term NUAC, △ holding of launching ceremony of the 17th-term NUAC, △ enhancement of appropriateness of recommending policy, △ revitalization of gathering of public opinion on unification, △ proliferation of communication with the people and bond of sympathy on national unification among the people △ strengthening of the capability of NUAC members for achieving unification, △ proliferation of the foundation for supporting the unification of Korea in foreign countries, and △ revitalization of the One-to-Five Movement to welcome unification.

Meanwhile, Park Hae-jin, Vice-chairperson of the Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly, proposed a campaign dubbed “Enjoy Summer Holidays in the Country.” Executive Committee members decided to promote the campaign of revitalizing domestic consumption and promised to spend their summer holidays in the country and try to have the campaign spread to all the local chapters broadly.
