「Medical Service Volunteers Group」 Donates First Aid Medicine Kits, Glasses, and Dental Instruments

The National Unification Advisory Council (NUAC; Executive Vice-chairperson: Hyun Kyung-dae) presented a letter of appointment to the Medical Service Volunteers Group of NUAC (Leader: Dr. Kim Cheol-soo, Executive director of H+ Yangji Hospital) in a simple ceremony and held its first meeting at 3:30 pm on Feb. 25, 2014 at the Secretariat Office of NUAC.

Hyun Kyung-dae, Executive Vice-chairperson, presented a letter of appointment to 14 NUAC Medical Service Volunteers (1 leader, 3 advisers, 4 deputy leaders, and 6 executive committee members) and requested positive medical care activities from them.

The 「Medical Service Volunteer Group of NUAC」 was founded to practice “Preparation for National Unification - One to Five Movement” (① Mentoring ② Legal Support ③ Medical Support ④ Support to Encourage Learning ⑤ Support for Employment) for the successful settlement of North Korean refugees in South Korea. NUAC already launched the 「Legal Service Volunteer Group of NUAC」 last October, and further detailed activities related to mentoring and scholarship will be announced soon.

After the ceremony, a meeting was held to discuss how to promote the activities. The Medical Service Volunteer Group decided to donate first aid kits, glasses, and dental instruments required for the daily life of North Korean refugees; the detailed method and target of support will be decided at its second meeting, to be held mid-March this year.

In addition to medical supply, the Medical Service Volunteer Group of NUAC will promote various activities for North Korean refugees such as △ Lectures on Medical Care, △ Medical Checkup, and △ Free Medical Treatment.
