  • Provincial Assemblies hold workshops aimed at enhancing the capability of NUAC council members
  • Provincial assemblies held workshops aimed at enhancing the capability of NUAC members and renewing their commitment to promote unification-related activities. On November 22 and 23, a joint workshop for executive NUAC members in Gwangju, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam was held in Kumho Resort in Hwasun. During the workshop attended by more than 130 people including vice-chairpersons of provincial assemblies in Gwangju, Jeonbuk, and Jeonnam, heads of municipal chapters, and chiefs of women and youth standing committees, Mr. Ahn Deuk-gi, a researcher at the Institute for National Security Strategy, gave a special lecture on the “Recent Status of Unification/Security–related Matters on the Korean Peninsula.”

    Mr. Kim Jeom-joon, Planning & Coordination Officer of the Secretariat, gave a briefing on the status of promotion of major affairs. This was followed by presentations by the municipal chapters of Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju, Jeonju-si, and Haenam-gun on the unification-related activities they performed. Afterward, an operation meeting of each of the provincial assemblies, presided over by the vice-chairperson of each provincial assembly, was held, including an assessment of the status of promotion of unification-related projects in 2012 and a discussion on the key projects to be promoted.

    The Gyeongnam Provincial Assembly (Vice-chairperson: Park Yeong-gwi) held a workshop for executive NUAC members at the Hanwha Resort in Seoraksan Mountain on November 23 and 24, with heads of municipal chapters, secretaries, and chiefs of women standing committees attending. At the workshop, Mr. Lee Su-seok, a researcher at the Institute for National Security Strategy, gave a special lecture on the“Recent Status of North Korea and What We Should Prepare.”The participating NUAC members then filled out questionnaires about the country’s policy on unification as well as the North and their opinions on the relations between the two Koreas.

    NUAC members of the East Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly held a workshop at Hanwha Resort in Baegamon, Uljin on November 23 and 24, with more than 100 members attending including Gyeongbuk Provincial Assembly Vice-chairperson Lee Sang-cheon. At the workshop, Mr. Lee Sang-cheon gave a special lecture on the “Role of NUAC members in the Preparations for Unification.” This was followed by Representative Lee Gwang-baek of the Network for North Korean Democracy and Human Rights explaining the current status of North Korea.

    The Daegu Provincial Assembly’s Women Committee (chief : Ahn Jong-hoi) held a workshop for female NUAC members in Daegu at Hotel J’s in Daegu on November 19, with more than 200 people attending including Vice-chairperson Yoon Byeong-hwan of the Daegu Provincial Assembly. During the workshop, the fund -- collected through a charity bazaar held at the Hyundai Department Store Daegu between September 13 and September 16 -- was presented to North Korean refugees. At the session that followed, North Korean refugees Won Seong-ae and Bang U-jeong explained the reality of the North.
