The Jungnang-gu Municipal Chapter (head: Kim Sang-hee) of Seoul held the “Unification Sympathy Talks for Teenagers” at the Hyewon Girls’ High School on July 6 with the aim of promoting high school students’ interest in unification and establishing a proper vision for unification.
The event, which was joined by 240 second year high school students from Hyewon Girls’ High School, featured a keynote speech by Jeon Young-sun, professor of Humanities for Unification at Konkuk University, and a Q&A session between North Korean defector Kim Na-na and students under the overarching theme of “What Will My Life Look Like after Unification?”
The students expressed interest in topics such as the true nature and reality of the Kim Jong-un regime, current state of inter-Korean relations, power dynamics, and stakes between the major powers surrounding the Korean peninsula. Questions included the following: whether there is Wi-Fi in the North; whether their North Korean peers were obligated to stay after classes and self-study at school far into the night; which universities ranked best in North Korea and how to get in, and; which jobs were the most popular and esteemed among North Koreans.
