The San Francisco Chapter (head: Jeong Seung-deok) invited Alex Gladstein, strategy officer of the Human Rights Foundation, and researcher Baek Ji-eun from Harvard Belfer Center and held the “North Korean Human Rights Symposium” for the youth of the U.S. on June 4 at the Silicon Valley Cupertino Quinlan Community Center.
In this symposium, which was held in English, Alex Gladstein, who is responsible for passing the latest information from South Korea to North Koreans through a USB, said that South Korean dramas and movies are literally groundbreaking for North Korean adolescents. This will enable North Koreans to see that they have been educated on false beliefs and imaginations compared to the actual reality, he added. He then urged others to participate in the USB contributions campaign.
According to Researcher Baek Ji-eun, in order to free the North Koreans from oppression and dictatorship, it is absolutely necessary to increase efforts to allow North Koreans to access as much external information as possible.
