The Jeonbuk Provincial Assembly (Vice-chairperson: Song Hyun-man) and Jeonju-si Municipal Chapter in Jeollabuk-do (Head: Na Chun-gyun) held a peaceful reunification forum on the "Prospects of North and South Korea’s relations and Northeast Asia’s state of affairs after the fourth nuclear experiment of North Korea" on March 9 at Chonbuk National University’s Yeongbingwan Restaurant.
Professor Nam Sung-wook of Korea University kicked off the forum by analyzing the deterioration of North and South Korean relations and Northeast Asia’s state of affairs due to North Korea’s nuclear experiments and launch of long-range ballistic missile, including methods to impose sanctions on North Korea on an international scale. Professor Nam stressed that, in order to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula, North Korea’s determination is vital.
Regional journalists such as Kim Myung-sung, KBS Jeonju Broadcasting director of diagnosis, Song In-ho, MBC Jeonju Munhwa Broadcasting program director, Sung Ji-ho, JTV Jeonju Television director of headquarters, Lee Gyung-jae, Jeonbuk Daily editorial writer, Im Hwan, Jeonbuk Domin Newspaper executive director, Im Byung-sik, SJB News managing editor, Jung Bok-gyu, SMG News managing editor, and Kim Tae-jung, Jeonbuk Domin Newspaper editorial writer, were there to serve as the designated debaters.
Participants in the discussion agreed that the tension and confrontation situation will persist unless North Korea gives up its nuclear experiments. It is significant that citizens agree and sympathize with the government’s policies such as the halt of Gaeseong Industrial Complex.
