Inaugural Session to Launch the Municipal Chapters of South Region (Atlanta and Miami) of North America Held
The inaugural session to launch the municipal chapters of south region (Atlanta and Miami) of North America of the 16th National Unification Advisory Council was held. On Aug. 1, 150 persons including the Council members, compatriots, and officials of the consulate celebrated the launching ceremony at Sonestar Hotel.

After greeting the participants, Lee Sang-yong, Head of the Atlanta Municipal Chapter, stressed the need to make every possible effort with firm determination, as if the history of the Korean Peninsula and the future of 70 million Koreans depended on the hands of the members of the 16th Atlanta Municipal Chapter. He vowed to make his best efforts to gather the minds of local compatriots and build the foundation of peaceful unification of our fatherland.

    "The key subjects of the 16th Miami Municipal Chapter are to strengthen the ability for next-generation unification and build the foundation of national unification. Adjustment of opinions among the generations is required to achieve such," said Koo Ja-hyeon, Head of the Miami Municipal Chapter, in his opening speech.

    Meanwhile, Kim Ki-cheol, Vice-chairperson of the US Municipal Chapter, attended the ceremony and emphasized the need to combine the abilities of the members to contribute to national unification and share examples of achieving the action plan of unification among the municipal chapters to lay the foundation for national unification.

Jo Kyung-gu, Chairperson of the Korean Association, said that all the members of the Miami Municipal Chapter should consolidate their abilities for the Korean Peninsula Trust-Building Process to be promoted successfully.

    Kim Un-sik, Director of the Secretariat of the Council, explained the action plan of the 16th National Unification Advisory Council to the members of the two municipal chapters. He also asked them to make their best efforts to build the Korean Peninsula Trust-Building Process in accordance with the policy of the government and lay the foundation for national unification.

    Prof. Kim Yeong-soo of Sogang University gave a lecture on the government's unification policy to the members and local compatriots, explaining the background of the "Korean Peninsula Trust-Building Process" of the Park Geun-hye Administration and the subjects to be promoted.
Meanwhile, the Consul General to Atlanta expressed appreciation to the members for their efforts to develop the Korean community and build the foundation of national unification.

Before the inaugural session, the Atlanta and Miami Municipal Chapters held meetings with compatriots living in the areas to discuss the current issues of the municipal chapters and the action plan of the 16th National Unification Advisory Council.
