The Gyeonggi Provincial Assembly (vice-chairperson: Park Hae-jin) hosted a peaceful unification leaders' forum on “Preventive and Preemptive Strike against North Korean Nuclear Weapons” at Gyanggyo Hall of the Gyeonggi Business & Science Accelerator on March 8, with around 300 people in attendance including chapter heads from 31 city and county chapters in the Gyeonggi area and forum members.

Park Hwee-rhak, Dean of the Graduate School of Politics and Leadership at Kookmin University, gave a presentation diagnosing the threat of North Korea's continued nuclear experiments and long-range missile launches. "Preventive strike could be one way of ensuring that the next generation doesn't inherit the nuclear threat," he said.

Following the presentation, a comprehensive discussion was headed by Yoo Young-ock, senior researcher at the Gyeonggi Peaceful Unification Forum. Participants believe that North Korea's continued nuclear threat is the biggest reason for the deteriorating South-North relations; they reached the consensus that close coordination with international society is needed for the unification of Korea and resolution of the North Korean nuclear problem.
