The Gangdong-gu Municipal Chapter (Head: Lee Jong-chun) of Seoul hosted the Unification Hope South-North Festival of Three Elements (Soil, Water, People) on October 13 at the lawn of Iljasan Mountain in Gangdong-gu.

Held under the slogan "From Halla to Baekdu 2016," this event was participated in by around 300 people who offered their congratulations, including Lee Hae-sik, mayor of Gangdong-gu, Cho Dong-tak, chairman of the Gangdong-gu Council, Yang Jun-uk, chairman of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, various guests, North Korean defectors, and local residents.

This event began by pouring the dirt collected from Hallasan Mountain this May and water collected from Baekdusan Mountain last November into a pot placed on the stage, moving it to Unification Hill (tentative name) formed beside the badminton court, and pouring the soil and water onto a monumental tree.

Afterward, a completion ceremony was held at the granite commemorative monument next to the tree, and the participants ended the event by surrounding the tree and the monument during the ceremony and vigorously waving Korean flags, the symbol of hope for unification.
