The Australia Chapter (Head: Suk-jin Lee) held the "2015 Sydney Prayer Meeting for Peaceful Unification" at Sydney United Korean Church (Reverend Woo Byeong-jin) on August 8 and 9, 2015 to ruminate on the meanings of the 70th anniversary of Korea's independence and to strengthen the yearning of Korean-Australians for peaceful unification.
Following the performance and worship by the Ever Green Choir, the meeting was presided over by Reverend Lee Il-dong (Hyeongtonghan Church). "Our sincere efforts to improve human rights in North Korea will pave the way for South-North unification,” Chairperson Lee stressed on the first day of the meeting.
The first meeting featured a special choral performance by the World Women's Christian Temperance Union (WWCTU) as well as congratulatory remarks by Li Dong-woo, chairman of the Federation of Korean Societies in Oceania and words of encouragement by Hong Gwan-pyo, a veteran minister of the Central Presbyterian Church in Sydney and a respected member of the Korean Christian community in Australia. The first meeting was concluded with a prayer of blessing by Reverend Byeon Sang-gyeun, chairman of the Korean Christian Leaders' Association in Sydney.
Korean Christian musicians held a unification concert on the second day of the meeting, with pastors in the Sydney area taking time to pray for North Koreans suffering from oppression by the Kim regime and for the peaceful unification of the Korean Peninsula.
